[LIM-er-ik] is a town in York County, incorporated on March 6, 1787 from Limerick Plantation. It annexed land from Limington in 1870. Supporting ten schoolhouses, Limerick’s population was 1,253 in 1880. maineanencyclopedia.com

James Sullivan helped settle the Limerick Plantation in 1775. He named it Limerick after Limerick, Ireland, his father's birthplace. wikipedia

York county. Little Ossipee river waters this town. It lies 28 miles W. from Portland, 85 S.W. from Augusta, and 15 N. by W. from Alfred. This is a good farming town, with a pleasant village, and an academy, incorporated in 1812. The town was incorporated in 1787. Population, 1837, 1,484.
