About Lebanon
[LEHB-uh-nun] is a town in York County, settled in 1743 and was known as “Towow” or “Towwoh.” It was incorporated on June 17, 1767 from Lebanon Plantation as Maine’s twenty-third town. York county. This town is bounded W. by Salmon Fall river, on the line of New Hampshire. It is a large agricultural township with some trade and manufactures. It lies 99 miles S.W. from Augusta, 50 S.W. by W. from Portland, and 11 S.E. from Alfred. Incorporated, 1767. Population, in 1837, 2,240.
