Harrington: A small coastal town in Washington County, Harrington is known for its scenic beauty and quiet atmosphere. The town offers opportunities for fishing, boating, and exploring the surrounding forests and coastline.

Originally called Plantation Number 5, it was one of six townships east of the Union River granted in 1762 by the Massachusetts General Court to an association of petitioners. First settled about 1765, it had a population of 177 on June 17, 1797, when incorporated as Harrington.

Harrington, Maine
Washington county. This town is bounded on the S. and E. by the waters of Narraguagus bay, and W. by the river of that name. It has good mill privileges, excellent harbors, considerable navigation and trade. Incorporated, 1797. Population, 1830, 1,118; 1837, 1,354.—Harrington lies 118 miles E. from Augusta and 25 W.S.W. from Machias.
