[GREEN-field] was a town in Penobscot County, incorporated on January 29, 1834 from Greenfield Plantation. Even though it was growing in population, Greenfield relinquished its status as a town in 1993 and is now an unorganized township. Much earlier it was known as Township No. 38 Middle Division, Bingham’s Penobscot Purchase (T38 MD BPP). Annexed from Hancock County on March 15, 1858, its peak recorded population of 357 was in 1860.maineanencyclopedia.com
