It includes the villages of East Edgecomb, North Edgecomb, and Pools Landing. The town was named for George Edgcumbe, 1st Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, a supporter of the colonists.

1839 - Edgecomb
Edgecomb, Maine
Lincoln county. This town is bounded by Damariscotta river on the E., and Sheepscot river on the W., and lies nearly opposite to Wiscasset across the latter river. 26 miles S.S.E. from Augusta. Population, 1837, 1,282. This town enjoys great facilities for navigation, the fisheries, ship building and the lumber business. It is a place of considerable trade. First settled, 1744.

Edgecomb, a post-township (town) of Lincoln co., Me., about 2 miles SE. of Wiscasset. It is bounded on the E. by the Damraiscotta River and on the W. by an inlet of the sea. Pop. in 1900, 607.
