On September 18, 1762, the Massachusetts General Court incorporated it as Bowdoinham, named for William Bowdoin. It originally included Richmond, set off in 1823, and portions of Topsham and the Plantation of West Bowdoinham, set off in 1788 as Bowdoin.

1839 - Bowdoinham
Bowdoinham, Maine
Lincoln county. A pleasant town on the west side of Kennebec river, and north of Topsham. Here is considerable business in the lumber trade and ship building. Twenty miles S. by W. from Augusta and 12 N. from Bath. Population, 1837, 2,218. Incorporated, 1762.

1906 - Bowdoinham
Bowdoinham, a banking post-village of Sagadahoc co., Me., in Bowdoinham township (town) on the Maine Central R., 8 miles N. of Brunswick. It is nearly 2 miles W. of Merry Meeting Bay, an expansion of the Kennebec River, which forms the E. boundary of the town. Pop. of the town in 1900, 1305.
