About Bingham

Bingham, Maine, USA - Bingham, Maine, USA - North Main St.
First settled in 1785, the town is named after William Bingham, a Philadelphia banker and politician who at one time owned two million acres (8,000 km2) of land in Maine known as the Bingham Purchase. The community was incorporated on February 6, 1812.

1839 - Bingham
Bingham, Maine
Somerset county. On the eastern bank of Kennebec river, opposite to Concord, 26 miles N. from Norridgewock, 118 N.N.E. from Portland, and 55 N. from Augusta. Incorporated, 1812. Population, 1837, 701. In 1837, 2,548 bushels of wheat was raised in this town.
1906 - Bingham
Bingham, a post-township (town) and hamlet of Somerset co., Me., 52 miles N. of Augusta, is bounded on the W. by the Kennebec River. It is on the Somerset R. The banking point is Skowhegan. It has manufacturers of lumber, etc. Pop. in 1900, 841.
