Amity was first settled in 1826, and incorporated as a town on March 19, 1836 from township T10 R1 WELS. Washington county. Township No. 10, first range of townships from the east line of the state,—about 100 miles N.E. from Bangor. Incorporated, 1836. Population, 1837, 130. This town has fine soil for wheat.
