Albany, Maine, was first settled in the late 18th century. Originally part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, it became an area of interest for settlers moving inland from the coastal regions. Albany was incorporated as a town in 1803 and was known for its agricultural activities, as well as its timber and mill industries, which were common economic drivers in early New England settlements.
