Grafton county, is one of the shire towns. It lies 31 miles N.W. from Plymouth and 70 N.N.W. from Concord. It is watered by Oliverian and Hazen brooks. Haverhill is a pleasant town. The soil is suited to every species of cultivation. There is a quarry of granite suitable for mill stones and buildings, and a bed of iron ore, on the W. side of Coventry, bordering this town.

The principal village is at the S.W. angle of the town, and known by the name of Haverhill Corner. There is a beautiful common in this village, laid out in an oblong square, around which the buildings regularly stand. The site is a handsome elevation, overlooking the adjacent country many miles N. and S. and not less than 6 or 7 miles E. and W. From the street, the ground slopes with unusual elegance to the W., and is succeeded by broad intervales. The prospect here is delightful. HAVERHILL, a post - township of Grafton county, New Hampshire, 70 miles N. N. W. from Concord. Population, 2405.

Haverhill, a post - village, one of the capitals of Grafton co., N.H., is on the Connecticut River, in Haverhill township, and on the Boston, Concord & Montreal Railroad, 84 miles N.N.W. of Concord. It contains a court-house, an academy, 2 churches, a newspaper office, and a paper-mill. The township contains also North Haverhill and Woodsville. Total pop. in 1890, 2545.

Haverhill, May 11.--A boy, apparently 15 years old, crushed beyond recognition, but breathing, was discovered at the bottom of an elevator well at the A. B. Arnold sole leather factory early this afternoon.

Dr. F. W. Anthony, who ordered the boy's removal to the Hale Hospital said he had probably been struck several times by the elevator, which had been running during the day, the youth having lain unconscious at the bottom of the well from the time he was first struck and crushed each time afterward when the elevator descended.

The police and employes[sic] of the factory were unable to learn the boy's identity, it being thought that he attempted to cross into another factory through the well and was crushed down from sight by the elevator, the operator of which know nothing of the accident, which was in the stock basement, where workmen visit only while the elevator is down.

At the hospital it was said the boy was dying.
