Colebrook, NH was originally granted by Governor Benning Wentworth in 1762 to a group of investors. He named us Dryden in honor of an English poet. No one settled the area and the charter was forfeited.

1839 - Colebrook
Colebrook, New Hampshire
Coos county, on Connecticut river, about 35 miles N. of Lancaster. It is watered by the Mohawk river and Beaver brook. The soil here is rich and capable of culture. Intervales of good quality stretch along the Connecticut. Colebrook was originally granted to Sir George Colebrook and others, and was incorporated Dec. 1, 1790. There is an academy in this town, incorporated in 1833. Population, 1830, 542.
The first street lamp was erected in Colebrook in 1876.

The first sidewalks in Colebrook were put down in 1876, & were wooden.

Until the railroad came to Colebrook in 1887, the stagecoach was the main form of transportation to Colebrook.

1895 - Colebrook
Colebrook, a post - village and summer resort of Coos co., N.H., on the Connecticut River, 35 miles by rail N. of Lancaster. It has an academy, 4 churches, a national bank, a savings-bank, 2 newspaper offices, and manufactures of bobbins, spools, lumber, and starch. Pop. of Colebrook township in 1890, 1736.
The first automatic voltage regulator in the world was invented and patented by Phil & Allen Terrill of Colebrook 1898.

1903 - BELIEVE AGED OWNER MET DEATH IN FLAMES.
Colebrook, N.H., July 29. - Several business buildings were burned here early today and it is thought that JESSE FORRISTALL, owner of the Wooden block, in which the flames originated, lost his life.

At one time, the village was in danger, but was saved.

MR. FORRISTALL was seen to enter the building while the fire was in progress. He was 85 years old.
