The Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, is a grand symbol of Gilded Age opulence and historical significance. Built in 1902 by wealthy industrialist Joseph Stickney, the hotel was designed to be a luxurious retreat for America’s elite. Its Spanish Renaissance Revival architecture, red-roofed grandeur, and lavish interiors reflect the extravagance of the era. Tragically, Stickney passed away shortly after its completion, and his widow, Carolyn, maintained the property with the elegance of a bygone age, leaving a legacy that continues to capture imaginations.

The hotel cemented its place in history during the Bretton Woods Conference of 1944. This landmark meeting brought delegates from 44 nations to the hotel’s Gold Room, where they established the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, shaping the global financial system in the aftermath of World War II.
