1839 - Maidstone
Maidstone, Vermont
Essex county. This mountainous township lies on the W. side of Connecticut river: it is watered by a pleasant pond and by Paul's stream. It has some good land, but most of it is poor. First settled, 1779. Population, 1830, 236. It lies 54 miles N.E. from Montpelier and 8 N. from Guildhall.
The New England Gazetteer containing descriptions of all the states, counties and towns in New England: also descriptions of the principal mountains, rivers lakes, capes, bays, harbors, islands and fashionable resorts within that territory. 1849 - Maidstone
Essex Co. This township is watered by Paul's Stream, which runs through the north part, and by Maidstone Lake, which is three miles long and half a mile wide, lying in the western part, and discharging its waters into Paul's Stream. The settlement here is mostly confined to the margin of Connecticut River, along which a road passes through the township.

The settlement of this township was probably commenced about the year 1770.

Boundaries. Northerly by Brunswick, easterly by Connecticut River, which separates it from Northumberland, N. H., southerly by Guildhall and a part of Granby, and westerly by Ferdinand.

Productions of the Soil. Wheat, 853 bushels ; Indian corn, 962 bushels ; potatoes, 15,310 bushels; hay, 863 tons; maple sugar, 11,200 pounds; wool, 3,356 pounds.

Distances. Three miles north from Guildhall, and seventy-one north-east from Montpelier.

Maidstone, mad'ston, a township of Essex co., Vt., 75 miles N.E. of Montpelier, is bounded E. by the Connecticut River. Pop. 254. Here is Maidstone Lake, a summer resort, 7 miles N.W. of Guildhall.
