1839 - St. George
St. George, Vermont
Chittenden county. A small town bounded W. by Shelburne, 28 miles W. by N. from Montpelier, and 8 S.E. from Burlington. First settled 1784. Population, 1830, 135. The surface is high and uneven: the soil is composed of loam, clay and gravel.
The New England Gazetteer containing descriptions of all the states, counties and towns in New England: also descriptions of the principal mountains, rivers lakes, capes, bays, harbors, islands and fashionable resorts within that territory. 1849 - St. George
Chittenden Co. The surface of this town is very uneven, with considerable elevations. The timber is principally maple, beech, and birch. There are no streams of consequence, and no mills or mill privileges.

A part of Shelburne was annexed to St. George in 1848.

Boundaries. North and north-east by Williston, south by Hinesburgh, and west by Shelburae.

First Settlers. The settlement was commenced here in the spring of 1784. by Joshua Isham, from Colchester, Ct. The next year several others joined the settlement.

Productions of the Soil. Wheat, 217 bushels; Indian corn, 616 bushels: potatoes, 4,635 bushels : hay, 566 tons ; maple sugar, 1,130 pounds ; wool, 2,368 pounds.

Distances. Twenty-eight miles west by north from Montpelier, and eight south-cast from Burlington.
