1839 - Sheffield
Sheffield, Vermont
Caledonia county. This town is 35 miles N.E. from Montpelier and 16 N. from Danville. First settled, 1792. Population, 1830, 720.

This town lies on the height of land between Connecticut river and Memphremagog lake. Branches of Passumpsic and Barton rivers both rise here. It is watered by several ponds. The lands are generally broken and not very productive.

The settlement of this town was commenced about the year 1792.

Boundaries. North-east by Glover and a part of Barton, easterly by Sutton, and south and south-west by Wheelock.

Productions of the Soil. Wheat, 1,396 bushels ; Indian com, 725 bushels ; potatoes, 39,200 bushels; hay, 2,292 tons ; maple sugar, 25,615 pounds ; wool, 4,273 pounds.

Distances. Sixteen miles north from Danville, and forty-six north-east from Montpelier.

Sheffield, a post - village of Caledonia co., Vt., in Sheffield township, about 36 miles N.E. of Montpelier, and 15 miles N. by W. of St. Johnsbury. It has 2 churches and 2 saw-mills. Pop. of the township, 811.
