1839 - Moretown
Moretown, Vermont
Washington county. Mad river, a branch of the Onion, waters this town and gives it good mill seats. The surface is mountainous and a great part of the soil unfit for cultivation. First settled, 1790. Population, 1830, 816. It lies 8 miles S.W. from Montpelier.
The New England Gazetteer containing descriptions of all the states, counties and towns in New England: also descriptions of the principal mountains, rivers lakes, capes, bays, harbors, islands and fashionable resorts within that territory. 1849 - Moretown
Washington Co. Mad River, a branch of the Winooski, waters this town, and gives it good mill sites. The surface is mountainous, and a great part of the soil unfit for cultivation.

Boundaries. Northerly by Middlesex and a part of Water bury, from which it is separated by Winooski River, easterly by Berlin, southerly by Waitsfield, and westerly by Duxbury.

First Settlers. The settlement of this township was commenced about the year 1790, and the town was organized three or four years after.

Productions of the Soil. Wheat, 1,795 bushels ; Indian corn, 4,104 bushels ; potatoes, 38,848 bushels ; hay, 3,171 tons ; maple sugar, 28,791 pounds; wool, 6,570 pounds.

Distances. Thirteen miles south-west from Montpelier. The great Northern Railroad passes in this vicinity.
