1839 - Lowell
Orleans county. This town was first settled in 1806, and was called Kelleyvale for a number of years. It lies 36 miles N. from Montpelier, and 10 S.W. from Irasburgh. Population, 1830, 314. This township is mountainous, and the fountain head of Missisque river.

1849 - Lowell
Orleans Co. The Missisco River originates in a small pond, nearly on the line between this township and Eden, and taking a northerly course, and receiving a number of considerable tributaries, enters Westfield near its south-east corner. Several of these tributaries are sufficient for mills, and the river is increased by them to considerable magnitude, forming meadows of considerable extent and fertility before leaving the township. Although encompassed by mountains on all sides, except the north-east, much of the township is handsome land, easy to till, and generally productive. At the grist mill of Asahel Curtis, near the centre of Lowell, the whole river passes through a hole in the solid rock. This natural bridge is situated at the foot of a fall in the river of about ten feet. The top of the bridge is about three feet -wide, and the same distance from the surface of the water, and under it the water is fifteen feet deep.

Lowell, a post-village of Orleans co., Vt., in Lowell township (town) on the Missisquoi River, about 50 miles ENE. of Burlington. It has mills and various manufactures. Pop. of the town in 1900, 982.
