Essex county. Moose river rises in the easterly part of this town and the Passumpsic passes through the westerly part. The land is mountainous and most of it unfit for cultivation. It lies 45 miles N. from Montpelier. First settled 1790. Population, 1830, 33.
Boundaries. North-westerly by Newark, north-easterly by Brighton and Ferdinand, south-east by Granby, and south-west by Victory and Burke.
First Settlers. There were five or six families in this town as early as 1814 ; but the settlement has advanced very slowly, and it is still unorganized.
Productions of the Soil. Wheat, 99 bushels ; Indian corn, 69 bushels ; potatoes, 3,280 bushels; hay, 136 tons; maple sugar, 3,330 pounds ; wool, 370 pounds.
Distances. Twenty-four miles northwest from Guildhall, and sixty-nine north-east from Montpelier.
Hiking Trails: East Haven offers numerous hiking trails that cater to various skill levels. The Crystal Lake State Park nearby has some great options, including the Crystal Lake Trail, which offers breathtaking views of the lake. The surrounding woods are also fantastic for birdwatching and wildlife spotting.
Snowmobiling and Cross-Country Skiing: In the winter, East Haven turns into a snowy wonderland. Snowmobilers and cross-country skiers will find miles of pristine trails through the snowy forests. The East Haven Wind Farm offers access to some fantastic trails for winter sports.
