1776 - Magog was first settled about 1776 by loyalist refugees from the American Revolution.
In 1797, Mr. Ralph Merry III settled in these places and is considered to be the founder of Magog.
However, for a long time, this hamlet located at the northern end of Lake Memphremagog, was called The Outlet, (discharge of the lake in English). Ralph Merry, a good innovator, created the Magog Manufacturing Company and built flour, saw and card mills. It was also he who built the first dam on the north side of the river, between an island and the shore, where the railway passes.
1798 - Water-powered gristmills and sawmills were built in Magog in 1798
"Memphré" - The sea serpent of Lake Memphrémagog
A lengendary creature, this beast would have been sighted hundreds of times and as early as 1798.
1818 - First school opens in Magog
In 1835, the opening of a stagecoach station on a Montreal-Sherbrooke route breathed new life into Magog's economic development.
A few years later, a large number of Irish Catholic immigrants, driven from Ireland by famine settled on the eastern shore of Lake Memphremagog. This first half of the 19th century marked the arrival of the resort industry with a certain number of hotels and seasonal navigation on the lake.
1855 - the settlement adopted an abbreviation of Memphremagog for its name (Magog) in 1855, when it was incorporated as a town.
Calico printing began in Magog in 1884
The first textile company to establish itself in Magog was the Magog Cotton & Print Company founded in 1884, which became Dominion Textile in 1905 and which still exists, although it is now part of C.S. Brooks Canada.

Around 1890 the City of Magog was born. Log cutting and log driving (wood floating) constituted the mainstays of the economy for a long time.
