1776 - Magog was first settled about 1776 by loyalist refugees from the American Revolution.

In 1797, Mr. Ralph Merry III settled in these places and is considered to be the founder of Magog.
However, for a long time, this hamlet located at the northern end of Lake Memphremagog, was called The Outlet, (discharge of the lake in English). Ralph Merry, a good innovator, created the Magog Manufacturing Company and built flour, saw and card mills. It was also he who built the first dam on the north side of the river, between an island and the shore, where the railway passes.

A few years later, a large number of Irish Catholic immigrants, driven from Ireland by famine settled on the eastern shore of Lake Memphremagog. This first half of the 19th century marked the arrival of the resort industry with a certain number of hotels and seasonal navigation on the lake.
