Sainte-Dorothée: Located in Laval, Sainte-Dorothée is a residential neighborhood known for its proximity to the waterfront, offering a mix of urban and suburban living with beautiful parks and recreational areas.
Founded at the western tip of the island in 1869, the parish of Sainte-Dorothée remained essentially rural for about a century.
The inhabitants of Sainte-Dorothée, encountering fierce opposition both from the residents of the parish of Sainte-Rose-de-Lima and from Saint-Martin, from whom they seek to break away, will owe the foundation of their parish to their sole responsibility, tenacity.
In fact, the feud pits opponents for four years and only leads to a stalemate. Canon Hippolyte Moreau then decides: a new sacred area will be erected. After all, the reasons invoked for the foundation of this new parish are the same as for the previous ones: the distance from the church which compromises the observance of religious duties and the reception of the sacraments.
The ensuing development of Sainte-Dorothée revolves around the public square, linked to the church, and the climbing paths that border it.
Sainte-Dorothée was one of the fourteen municipalities that merged to from the city of Laval in 1965. grandquebec.com

Little by little, dairy production, predominant in Sainte-Dorothée in 1869, gave way to market gardening.
The market gardeners, who sell their early vegetables in the major markets of the metropolis, claim reduced tolls at the entrance to Montreal and seek to become more and more productive. At the Bonsecours Market in Montreal, vegetables sold at high prices, so much so that, from 1920 to 1940, production under glass was multiplied by five. Île Jésus, and in particular Sainte-Dorothée, then became what would rightly be called “the garden of Montreal”.
