1730 (Wolcott) Although individuals were living within the Farmingbury territory as early as the 1730s, they possessed no official identity apart from the parent towns of either Waterbury or Farmington.
1770 (Wolcott) - By 1770, the residents of Farmingbury successfully petitioned the Connecticut General Assembly to create the First Ecclesiastical Society of Farmingbury.
Having established an independent parish, Farmingbury gained a good deal of religious, legal and financial independence from Waterbury and Farmington.
1773 - The first meetinghouse of the Wolcott Congregational Church was built in 1773 on "Benson's Hill" in Farmingbury (later Wolcott).
Wolcott was founded in 1796 and was originally named Farmingbury.
On May 12, 1796, Farmingbury Parish was incorporated as a town by virtue of an act passed by the General Assembly. The new town’s representatives voted to call their town Wolcott in grateful recognition of the state’s Lieutenant Governor, Oliver Wolcott, who cast the tie-breaking vote. Wolcott became the 104th Connecticut town.
1800 - Seth Thomas attempted to set up a clock-making industry in Wolcott
He made his first clock in his family's house off of Spindle Hill Road.

New Haven county. This is a small town, watered by a branch of Naugatuck river, 22 miles N. from New Haven. Population, 1830, 843. The town was incorporated in 1796. The territory was formerly a parish in the towns of Farmington and Waterbury; and from that circumstance was alled "Farmingbury." The lands in Wolcott are elevated, rough, stony, and hard to cultivate. One of the highest hills in this part of the state lies in this town: it commands a very extended prospect of Long Island Sound and the adjacent country.
