English settlers arrived on the north shore of the Town of Brookhaven in 1655.

In 1686, Governor Thomas Dongan issued a Patent which granted extensive powers to the Town of Brookhaven, and established a representative form of government.

Third Congregational Church of Brookhaven was established in 1815. Jacob Corwin was pastor.

Brookhaven, a large township of Suffolk co., N.Y., is bounded on the N. by Long Island Sound and on the S. by the Atlantic Ocean, and is intersected by the Long Island Railroad. It contains the villages of Patchogue, Port Jefferson, Brookhaven, Setauket, &c. The soil in some parts is fertile. Pop. 11,451.
