Palmyra, a handsome post-village in Palmyra township, Wayne county, New York, on the Erie canal, and on Mud creek, half a mile from the Rochester and Syracuse Direct rail road, and 22 miles E. by S. from Rochester. It contains 1 Presbyterian, 1 Episcopal, 1 Baptist, 1 Methodist church, and a Friends' meeting house; a Union school-house, which cost $11,000; a bank, several manufactories, and about 16 stores of different kinds. Two weekly newspapers are published here. Population of the township in 1850, 3893 ; of the village in 1853, about 2800.

Palmyra, a handsome post-village in Palmyra town ship, Wayne co., N.Y., on the Erie Canal, on Mud Creek, and on the New York Central Railroad, 22 miles E.S.E. of Rochester, and 13 1/ 2 miles W. of Lyons. It contains 5 churches, the Palmyra Classical Union School, 3 banks, 2 newspaper offices, a machine-shop, 2 furnaces, and manufactures of printing presses, grain-drills, and scales. Pop. in 1890, 2131; of the township, 4188.
