1761 - The original design for the settlement of Danby was conceived, and the plan adopted, in Nine Partners, NY. The charter was granted by Benning Wentworth, governor of New Hampshire, on the 27th of August, 1761.
1839 - Danby
Danby, Vermont
Rutland county. Situated near the head waters of Otter creek, 17 miles S. from Rutland, and 68 S.S.W. from Montpelier. First settled 1768. Population, 1830, 1,362.—The surface of the town is rough and mountainous, but productive of extraordinary feed for cattle. Some of the best dairies in the country are in Danby. Large quantities of butter and cheese, of superior quality, are annually sent to market. There are some curious caverns in this town,—one of great depth.
1849 - Danby
Rutland Co. Otter Creek runs nearly on the line between this township and Mount Tabor, but there are no streams of much consequence within the township. The most considerable are. Mill River which rises in the north-western part, and fails into Otter Creek in Mount Tabor, and Flower Branch which rises in the north-west part, and falls into Pawlet River in Pawlet. These and a branch of Otter Creek, in the north-eastern part, are all sufficient for mills. The surface of the township is uneven, and some parts of it mountainous. South Mountain and Spruce mountain are the principal elevations. The soil is well adapted to the production of grass, and there are here some of the largest dairies in the State. No less than 300,000 pounds of cheese, and butter in proportion, have been carried from this town to market in one year.

Danby, a post-village in Danby township, Rutland co., Vt., on Otter Creek, 18 miles by rail S. of Rutland, and 1/ 2 mile W. of the Green Mountains. It has 2 churches, and manufactures of lumber, charcoal, boxes, and chair-stock; also a marble-quarry. Dairying is the principal business of Danby, which has 8 cheese-factories. Pop. about 250; of the township, 1084.
1900 - Blacksmith Shop Burns
S. L. Griffith’s blacksmith shop at Danby burned Monday morning. The cause of the fire is not known.

1907 - Imperial Quarry inside of Dorset Mountain - First opened in 1907, the quarry can boast of being the largest underground marble quarry in the world.
