Unity: Found in Waldo County, Unity is home to Unity College, a school focused on environmental sustainability. The town also hosts the Common Ground Country Fair, a popular event celebrating rural life.

When originally settled by Quakers, the town was known as Twenty-Five Mile Pond Plantation. The name came from its being located on a pond twenty-five miles from Fort Halifax in Winslow. The name was changed to Unity upon incorporation as a town in 1804.

1839 - Unity
Unity, Maine
Waldo county. This is a flourishing farming town, 33 miles N.E. from Augusta, 22 W.S.W. from Belfast, and bounded S.W. by Albion. It is well watered by a branch of Sebasticook river, which passes N.W., about 9 miles distant.

Unity was incorporated in 1804. Population, 1837, 1,520. Wheat crop, same year, 11,099 bushels.

1886 - Unity
Unity lies in the north-western part of Waldo County. It is bounded by Burnham on the north, Thorndike on the east, Freedom and Albion on the south, and Unity Plantation on the west. A broad belt of the town on this side consists of wooded plain. There are smaller areas of woodland in the eastern and other parts of the town. The surface generally is not greatly broken, and lies in swells and valleys of no great height or depth. The soil is of clay and sandy loam, and a light and a dark loam, and is tolerably fertile. Hay is the crop having the greatest value. Unity or Twenty-five Mile Pond lies partially within the northern part of the town. The principal water-course is Sandy Stream, which runs through the town from the south-east to Unity Pond. Unity village is situated upon this stream about one mile south of the pond. 1895 -Unity
Unity, a post-village in Unity township, Waldo co., Me., on a branch of the Maine Central Railroad, 26 miles N.W. of Belfast, and about 32 miles N.E. of Augusta. It has 2 churches, and manufactures of lumber, starch, ploughs, &c. Pop. of the township, 1201.
