1839 - Centre-Harbor
Centre-Harbor, New Hampshire
Strafford county. Is situated between Winnepisiogee and Squam Lakes; bounded N.E. by Moultonborough, S.E. by Meredith, S.W. by New Hampton, N.W. by Holderness and Squam lake. It is distant 39 miles from Concord, 60 from Portsmouth, and 104 from Boston.—Measley pond and Squam lake are partly in this town. The latter furnishes fine trout and has several islands valuable for grazing. The soil is very good, mostly a rich loam. The town is pleasantly situated, and its local position probably gave rise to its name. The first settlements were made by Ebenezer Chamberlain, in 1765, and Col. Joseph Senter, in 1767. Population, in 1830, 577.

1876 - Center Harbor
Center Harbor “is a pleasant little rural hamlet at the head of the long N. Bay of Lake Winnipesaukee, and occupying decidedly the most favorable position for studying and appreciating the views of the lake. It contains a Congregational Church, one or two stores and a telegraph office. It is one of the chief summer-resorts in the region and has several hundred city boarders throughout the season.”

1885 - Center Harbor
The town of Centre Harbor lies in the northern part of the county, and is bounded as follows:
On the North west and North, by Grafton County; Northeast by Carroll County; South by Meredith and New Hampton.

This town was incorporated December 17, 1797, having been set off from New Hampton. For several years previous to the incorporation of the town the locality of the present village was known as
"Centre-harbour." Moultonborough harbor being east and Meredith habor west, made this the centre harbor, and from this source the town derived its name.

The village of Centre Harbor is located on Lake Winnipiseogee [sic] and commands a charming view of the lake and neighboring hills. It is somewhat celebrated as a watering-place. There are two churches in this town [1885] - Congregational and Baptist.

The first petition for the incorporation of the town was made in June 1788, and signed by Benning Moulton and fifty others. This petition, however, was not granted, and, in 1797,... Read MORE...

1895 - Centre Harbor
Centre Harlbor, a post-office and summer resort of Belknap co, N.H., at the N.W. extremity of Winnepesaukee Lake, and in Centre Harbor township, 43 miles N. of Concord. It has a church, 2 hotels, and numerous boarding-houses. Steamboats ply daily between this place and other villages on the lake. Pop. of the township, 479.
