On May 12, 1840, the Évêcher de Québec granted the canonical erection of a new parish under the name of Saint-Irénée by the detachment of those of Saint-Agnes (La Malbaie), Saint-Étienne-de-la- Malbaie (La Malbaie) and Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption (Les Éboulements). It is then that the inhabitants of the parish are charged with building a church on site to confirm the status of their parish. It was four years later, in 1844, following the completion of the church that the parish obtained its definitive recognition by the diocesan authorities...
