The modern history of Bonsecours begins in 1795, when Joseph Bouchette, official surveyor, demarcates the canton of Stukely. The township is populated first by American Loyalists (Americans who remained loyal to the King of England). The crown distributes lots to the Protestant clergy, then to militiamen dismissed after the war of 1812-1815. The first permanently settled French Canadian families came from Acadia and other regions in the 1830s...

The Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours parish of Stukely-Nord was the first parish in the district of Bedford located in the township of Stukely, eastern part. The first Catholic chapel was built there in 1849. In 1878, the new parish church of Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours de Stukely was blessed...

In 1961, the municipality adopted the toponym of Bonsecours...
