The old name celebrated the memory of Sir John Johnson (1741-1830), owner of the seigneury of Monnoir from 1795 and who lived at the foot of the mountain to which he gave his name between 1810 and the end of his life. He was born in Mount Johnson (1741-1830), near New York.
