The former municipality of Sainte-Agnès, now the La Malbaie sector, is located in a hilly region of Charlevoix , with an average altitude of 450 meters.
It was in 1830 that the parish of Sainte-Agnès was separated from that of La Malbaie. The new parish is made up of many rows scattered over a huge territory in the hinterland of Charlevoix. In fact, the parish of Saint-Agnès is one of the first centers of colonization established in the lands of Charlevoix-Est .
In the past, the region of Sainte-Agnès was called the parish of three churches, because the territory then included the parishes of Sainte-Agnès, Notre-Dame-des-Montes and Saint-Aimé-des-Lacs.
On December 1, 1999, a new administrative entity, the City of La Malbaie, was created from the amalgamation of the city of La Malbaie -Pointe-au-Pic, the Municipality of Rivière-Malbaie, the Municipality of Saint-Fidèle, Village of Cap-à-l'Aigle and the Parish of Sainte-Agnès...
