About Hamburg
Hamburg is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. It is named after the city of Hamburg, in Germany. The town is on the western border of the county and is south of Buffalo. The villages of Hamburg and Blasdell are in the town.
Historical evidence shows the area was settled originally by the Erie people. Around 1805 the settlement was known as "Barkerville", named after Zenas Barker, the postmaster.
The town of Hamburg was formed by government decree on March 20, 1812, from the (now defunct) town of Willink.
By 1850, the town was reduced by the formation of the towns of Orchard Park and West Seneca.

John Cummings was the first landowner in Hamburg (1803) and by 1806 he had built the first grist mill south of Buffalo.
The first post office in the Hamburg area was called Barkerville, after Zenas Barker, Postmaster (1805).
By an act of the State Legislature on March 20, 1812, the Town of Hamburg was created.

Hamburg, a post-township of Erie co., New York, on Lake Erie, 8 miles S. from Buffalo. Population, 6219.
The Village of Hamburg was incorporated in 1874.
1895 - Hamburg
Hamburg, a post-village of Erie co., N.Y., in Hamburg township, on the Buffalo & Jamestown Railroad, with a station also on the Lake Shore Railroad, 10 miles S. of Buffalo, and nearly 1 mile from Lake Erie. It contains the Hamburg Union School and Academy, 5 churches, a newspaper office, a tannery, and a flour-mill. Pop, about 800; of the township, 3096.
1916
Hamburg, a banking post-village of Erie co., N.Y., in Hamburg township (town); on the Erie R., 12 miles S. of Buffalo. It has manufactures of canned goods, cigars, horse- collars, etc. Pop. in 1900, 1683 ; of the town, 4673.
