Eden, Lamoille, Vermont, USA
Eden was chartered on August 28, 1781 by the Vermont State Legislature. Eden and Eden Mills are located within the town. The charter was issued to 72 Green Mountain Boys who fought in the Revolutionary War. It was hoped that the Town of Eden would become a "Garden of Eden" to these veterans, although the Town history reveals that none of the veterans actually settled here.

1839 - Eden
Eden, Vermont
Lamoille county. This township was granted to "Col. Seth Warner and his associates, our worthy friends, the officers and soldiers of his regiment in the line of the continental army," August 28, 1781. "Our friends," for their patriotic services, certainly deserved a better township than this, for it is mountainous, rocky and cold; it is however good for grazing and produces some fine beef cattle and sheep. It is watered by Green river and Wild Branch. Several ponds in the town afford good fishing. Eden lies 30 miles N. from Montpelier, and is bounded by Hydepark. Population, 1830, 461.
The New England Gazetteer containing descriptions of all the states, counties and towns in New England: also descriptions of the principal mountains, rivers lakes, capes, bays, harbors, islands and fashionable resorts within that territory. By John Hayward, author of the Columbian Traveller, Religious Creeds, &c. &c. Boston: John Hayward. Boyd & White, Concord, N.H. 1839

LAMOILLE Co. The streams in this township are numerous. Wild Branch and Green River rise in the eastern part. The former runs through the corner of Craftsbury, and the latter through the corner of Hydepark, and both fall in to the River Lamoille in Wolcott. They are both considerable mill streams. The Branch, which is the outlet of North Pond, runs across the north-west corner of Hydepark and falls into the Lamoille in Johnson. North Pond is two miles long, and of very unequal width. A tongue of the land extends into it from the south, three quarters of a mile, which is, in some places, no more than two rods wide, and on which grow large quantities of blue and black whortleberries. These berries are found nowhere else in this part of the county. The township is considerable mountainous. Mount Norris and Hadley Mountain lie on the north line of the township, and partly in Lowell. Belvidere Mountain lies partly in the north-west corner of the township, and its summit is probably the... Read MORE...

1852 - July 10 - Great Hail Storm
A correspondent, writing from Eden, Vermont, gives us an account of a severe storm of hail which passed over that place on the 22nd instant.
The hail stones measured three inches in circumference, and covered the ground to the depth of six inches completely destroying the crops of corn and grain, breaking and beating it into the ground, and doing much other damage. The hail demolished all glass exposed to its severity. Its extent was two miles in width and three miles in length, and rand east and west. The cattle were much bruised by the hail, and were left covered with bunches from the force of its blow. The forest trees were stripped of their leaves, and present a remarkable ragged appearance. The hail laid in heaps upon the ground for more than twenty-four hours. - Worcester Transcript.
