Stow [Stowe], Vermont
Lamoille county. Waterbury river and its branches give this town a good water power, and by which several mills are put into operation. Stow is situated between the Mansfield and Hog's Back mountains, and contains a large tract of level, fertile land, which appears to have been of alluvial formation. This valley contains some very beautiful and productive farms. Between five and six thousand sheep are kept and the exports of agricultural products are valuable. Stow is a flourishing town and contains a neat and pleasant mountain valley village.

This town was first settled in 1793. It lies 15 miles N.N.W. from Montpelier, 12 S. from Hyde Park, and 26 E. from Burlington. Population, 1820, 957; 1830, 1,570.

All that tract of land formerly called Mansfield was annexed to this town in 1848.

Boundaries. North by Morristown, east by Worcester, south by Waterbury, and west by Mansfield.

First Settlers. The settlement was commenced about the year 1793.

The first meeting-house built in this town was in 1818.

1895 - Stow / Stowe
Stow, or Stowe, a post-village and summer resort in Stow township, Lamoille co., Vt., on the Waterbury River, about 16 miles N. by W. of Montpelier, and 28 miles E. of Burlington. It is beautifully situated in a valley. It contains 3 or 4 churches, a graded school, a hotel capable of accommodating about 350 guests, and manufactures of leather, carriages, gloves, starch, &c. Stow township comprises part of Mount Mansfield. Visitors can ride in carriages to its summit, on which is the Tip Top House. Pop. of the township, in 1890, 1886.
