During the deportation of the Acadians in 1755 , several scattered families settled on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, a few miles from the City of Trois-Rivières.
Part of this territory, which was formerly an offshoot of the parish of Saint-Grégoire-le-Grand, is today designated by the name of Saint-Célestin.

On July 13, 1849 , a petition was signed by 96 freeholders and passed on to Bishop Joseph Signay so that a priest could come to settle in the community. Since roads are not easy to drive and it is difficult to travel distances of up to 8 kilometers to attend religious services, a permanent priest would be the ideal solution. village-st-celestin.net
