1696 - Seigniory (Port Daniel) Granted, Dec. 12, 1696 to Sieur Rene d'Eneau
At the beginning of the 19th century, people from Scotland settled in Port-Daniel. Immigrants from Ireland, England, Jersey, Acadia and France gradually populated the area.
In 1825, Port-Daniel had at total of about 825 inhabitants, mostly the families of farmers, lumberjacks and fishermen.

Granted, Dec. 12, 1696 to Sieur Rene d'Eneau. - The bay forms a snug inlet.

In 1845, the township of Port-Daniel was created on the southern coast of the Gaspé Peninsula, midway between Paspébiac and Newport.
Port-Daniel owes its name to Charles Daniel, a merchant from Dieppe who was a member of the Compagnie des Cent-Associés and travelled to New France as a ship's captain.
