History of Saint-Norbert, Berthier, Québec, Canada

In the 1700s, La Seigneurie de Berthier, then made up of 28 concessions, occupied the north bank of the river.
Under the orders of the lords James Cuthbert father and son, the colonization of the northern portion accelerated. Of the 28 original concessions, 5 will occupy all or part of the territory of the parish of Saint-Norbert. The concession of Saint-Esprit is limited by the north and south ranges and the village. The concession of Route Alfred connects that of Saint-Esprit to Lake Maskinongé and is now identified as "Chemin du Lac". The Sainte-Anne concession is also part of the municipality and has retained part of its original name: "Rang Sainte-Anne". The territory of Norbert includes part of the 3rd range Castle Hill as well as the concession of the rang des Vingts, so named because most of the lands of this range are twenty arpents long.

Detached from Sainte-Geneviève-de-Berthier, the parish of Saint-Norbert, founded in 1846, was the subject of a canonical erection in 1848 and a civil erection in 1853, the very year in which the local post office of the same name.
