History of Armagh, Bellechasse, Québec, Canada

The township of Armagh was founded on July 13, 1799, but was civilly erected as a parish in 1862. Its name is taken from the name of County Armagh in Ulster, Northern Ireland.
Despite its name, the first residents of Armagh were not Irish. It was Mr. Charles Turgeon, originally from Saint-Vallier, who settled there around 1838. Several old buildings have been preserved in the center of the village of Armagh along Main Street.

township, is in the rear of the Augmentation to La Durantaie and the S. of l'Epinay. There are no settlements in the T. The Riviere du Sud traverses the S.W. extremity. The soil is not very good; but there is meadow-land between the hills and the rocky ridges that traverse it in a S.W. and N.E. direction. - Ungranted and unlocated, 41,000 acres, exclusive of reservations - 1st Sept., 1829.
