Before being called Saint-Paul-de-Montminy, the municipality was called St-Paul-du-Button (since 1852).

The oldest parish of Montmagny-Sud, the municipality still retains many heritage elements. It is a magnificent village located in the mountains, where a mixture of ancestral and modern architecture rubs shoulders.

Located on the side of Grande Coulée mountain, Saint-Paul-de-Montminy offers a remarkable panoramic view of the Appalachians, as well as its mansard-roofed houses that date from the time of the foundation of the village.

  • 1929 - Lighning strikes on an interesting marriage
During a violent electrical storm on April 1, 1929, a lightning strike reached the bell tower of the church and it was destroyed by fire, just like the neighboring convent, despite all the efforts made to avoid the worst convent burnt down. In addition, two people lost their lives as a result of this accident; a nun who did not survive the consequences of the brutal move and a man named Auguste Delagrave who had the council table blown over him. That very morning, we had celebrated a rather unusual wedding: that of a 16-year-old girl with a 57-year-old man. It is not without some comments that people have always remembered this fact.

  • The municipality officially changes its name on April 30, 1986, to become Saint-Paul-de-Montminy. This odonym honors Father Antoine Montminy, parish priest of Saint-Gervais, who advocated colonization in the parishes of southern Quebec.
