The origin of the name Montebello is obscure, but some say the name pays homage to Duke Napoleon-Auguste de Montebello, a friend of Louis-Joseph Papineau. Others are of the opinion that the beautiful landscapes of Montebello resemble those of Montebello in Lombardy, a province of Italy.
