New London, Wisconsin, USA - New London, Wisconsin, USA - South Pearl St., New London, Wis.

Following the treaty which made the land available for purchase, New London was established by European-American settlers in 1852 and was named after New London, Connecticut by Reeder Smith, a founder whose father was from there. Reeder Smith built the plank road between Appleton and Stevens Point. New London became a lumber center and the terminus of steamboats plying the Wolf River from Oshkosh.

New London, a post-village of Waupaca co., Wis., on the Wolf River, at the mouth of the Embarras River, and on the Green Bay & Minnesota Railroad, at the junction of the Milwaukee, Lake Shore & Western Railroad. 39 miles W. by S. of the city of Green Bay, and 21 miles W.N.W. of Appleton. It has 2 newspaper offices, a bank, a graded school, 5 churches, and manufactures of lumber, staves, &c. Pop. 1882.
