St Ignace, Michigan, USA - St Ignace, Michigan, USA - The Harbor, St. Ignace, Mich.

Here in 1671, the French Jesuit Jacques Marquette, founded the mission of St. Ignace, naming it for St. Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits; it was settlers first called it Mackinac and it is on Farmer's old maps as Ancient Fort Mackinac; Francis LaPointe owned and occupied land here before 1812, later selling to the Dousman family which in turn, in 1857, sold it to the brothers David, Patrick, and Michael Murray; Peter W. Hombach became its first postmaster on Nov. 3, 1874; incorporated as a village in 1882 and as a city in 1883.

Saint Ignace' (Fr. pron. saxteen-yáss), a post-town ship of Mackinaw co., Mich., on a bay of Lake Huron, about 45 miles N. of Petoskey. It has a church and a large saw-mill. Pop. 326.

Saint Ignace, a banking city and summer-resort, capital of Mackinac co., Mich., on a bay of Lake Huron and on the Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic R., 45 miles N. of Petoskey. It has lumber-mills, a meat-packing house, etc. Pop. in 1900, 2271.

1915 - ST. IGNACE POSTMASTER IS HIT HARD BY FIRE
St. Ignace, Mich., June 1. - Fire of undetermined origin yesterday wiped out the Kruger block, a small annex and a building owned by Mayor Wing with a loss of $80,000, with very little insurance. The Kruger block was occupied by F. Kruger & Son as a grocery.

Of all of Kruger's property, only part of his residence was saved. He has been postmaster here for 16 years.
