The town was incorporated on December 10, 1886...
Heflin was named for physician Wilson L. Heflin, father of U.S. senator from Alabama James Thomas Heflin (1920-1931). 1940 - Something She Ate
For three years it was thought that six-year-old Bunnie Jean Morrow suffered from "asthma." Last week it was learned that it was cottonseed hulls in her lungs.
It was thought that the child drew the hulls deep into her lungs while watching her mother feed cattle at their home near Heflin, Ala. She developed bronchial symptoms and the trouble was diagnosed and accepted as asthma. One skeptical doctor sent her to hospital where X-rays disclosed the real difficulty. Hulls were removed with the aid of a bronchoscope.
