About Pentwater
Edwin R. Cobb and Andrew Rector bought the first government land here in 1849 and built their sawmill in 1853; Charles Mears came in 1856, built a sawmill and a boarding house and called his part of the village Middlesex; Mr. Cobb became the first postmaster of Pent Water on March 17, 1855, and the first supervisor when the township was organized in 1856; it was platted in 1862 and incorporated as the village of Pent Water in 1867; the spelling was changed to Pentwater on May 23, 1894...
