1938 - COLLEGE DORMITORY WRECKED BY BLAZE.
Ames, Iowa, April 11. - Eighty-one Iowa State College co-eds who lost their wardrobes and books when Margaret Hall, ornate women's dormitory, burned Saturday were housed temporarily in other halls and in the college hospital.

M. D. HEISER, junior college dean, said officials estimated the loss of $141,000 and that the replacement cost would be about $225,000.

The eight students in the hall when the fire was discovered escaped unharmed after MISS KATHERINE PHELPS, housemother, dashed up and down the three floors warning them of the blaze.

Most of the women, MISS PHELPS said, were attending formal dances on the campus.
