1905 - Gresham is incorporated
Though it began as a settlement in the mid-1800s, it was not officially incorporated as a city until 1905.

1912 - TWO CARRY FRIEND IN SLUSH 7 MILES. TIMBER-CUTTER, WITH BOTH ARMS BROKEN, IS BORNE. Tree Falls on Woodman's Hut, When Companions Find Leo Roland They Improvise Litter.
After being carried seven miles in a litter by two companions, Leo Roland, a woodcutter, whose arms were broken when a giant tree fell on the lonely hut in which he was brought to Portland last night. The Red Cross ambulance met the litter a mile down the Powell Valley road, and the ambulance employes lifted the man into the ambulance. A fast run in the snow to the Good Samaritan Hospital put Roland under medical care.

Roland, who is an employe of Rudlum Bros., timber cutters, was employed in the woods two miles from Gresham. The cold spell confined him to his hut. As he was sitting at his fireside, a big tree weighted down by snow and ice crashed upon the hut and pinned down and severely injured Roland. Both of his arms were crushed.

Companions, who lived nearby, took him from the ruins of he hut, improvised a litter, and with a horseman riding ahead, started to Portland. Summoned by telephone, The Red Cross ambulance met the rider at East Fiftieth street and Hawthorne avenue.... Read MORE...
