Saint-Hugues is a town in southwestern Quebec north northeast of St-Hyacinthe, with a 2006 population of 1,310. It is located along Quebec Route 224, halfway between Saint-Guillaume and Saint-Simon-de-Bagot.

  • On October 17, 1710, Sieur Claude de Ramesay became the owner of the Seigneurie located near the Scibouet River (so called by the Abenakis because of its muddy waters), which flows into the Yamaska River.
    He wants to build a sawmill there. However, the Sieur de Ramesay will never reside in the Seigniory.

  • A first church was built in 1835 and in 1843 trustees were appointed to take care of the construction of the current stone presbytery. It will be finished and blessed on January 25, 1847.
