Santa Rosa, a post-town, capital of Sonoma co, Cal, on Santa Rosa Creek, and on the San Francisco & North Pacific Railroad, 57 miles N. by W. of San Francisco. It is situated in a fertile valley, near the W.base of the Coast Range, and has a delightful climate, adapted to the culture of grapes. It has a court-house, 7 or 8 churches, 2 news. paper offices, a bank, a savings-bank, the Pacific Methodist College (organized in 1862), the Christian College, and manufactures of iron, soap, and carriages.
