The clayey nature of the soil favors intensive cultivation. An important salting and the transport of live animals complete the economic portrait of the locality. Saint-Simon is best known for its Aérodium, visible from the Jean-Lesage highway, consisting of an aerodynamic wind tunnel system that allows people to float and move through the air.

The first arrivals, in 1800, settled near the Yamaska. They are from the islands of Sorel, Bécancour, Contrecœur and Saint-Sulpice.

The parish of Saint-Simon, detached from Saint-Dominique-de-Bagot, was founded in 1832.
Canonically erected in 1834 under the name of Saint- Simon-de-Bourchemin, taken from that of a fief of the seigniory of Ramsay (Ramezay).

The first municipality was established in 1845 under the name Saint-Simon-de-Ramsey, and abolished in 1847.
