The municipality of Petite-Rivière-Saint-François covers an area of nearly 136 square kilometers, but no more than 750 residents live in this beautiful and peaceful village located in the administrative region of the Capitale-Nationale.

Petite-Rivière-Saint-François is part of the Charlevoix regional county municipality and nature is everywhere. The beauty of the place is undeniable, due to the many maple groves that take on flamboyant tones in the fall, thanks to the majestic river and the surrounding hills...

Historically, this place between the river and the mountain was the first settlement in the Charlevoix region.

Over the years, the inhabitants live from agriculture, eel fishing, wood cutting and processing, maple syrup production, as well as the manufacture of pleasure boats which occupies an important place. in the local economy since the end of the 19th century.

    The settlement, the oldest in the Charlevoix region, grew at the mouth of the Little River in a deep valley east of Cape Maillard where natural open grassland accommodated the early colonizers.

  • (Petite-Rivière-Saint-François) In 1845, it was incorporated but the municipality was abolished in 1847. In 1855, it was reestablished as the Parish Municipality of Saint-François-Xavier-de-la-Petite-Rivière.
