1608 - The most famous bishop was Armand du Plessis who at 23 was appointed bishop in 1608, he declared Lucon "the vilest, muddiest and most unattractive bishopric in France” as the town had never recovered from the wars of religion.

1793 - The Battle of Luçon was fought on 14 August 1793 during the French Revolutionary Wars, between forces of the French Republic under General Tuncq and Royalist forces under Gigot d’Elbée.
